Children of the State have released the single ‘Hot Money’ from their upcoming EP, Tragic Carpet and The Magical Wasp Gang of Notre Dame’, out 20th November 2020. ‘Hot Money’ combines dark, post-punk guitars with synthy vocal effects to create a damningly heavy criticism of capitalist society and the influence of money in the modern world.
‘Hot Money’ has a seductively rich sound and shows the up-and-coming post-punk band at their heaviest, with a horn section that takes the single to the next level. The chorus’ lyrics are stripped back and the effect is delightfully addictive. Where the lyrics do leave something to be desired in parts of the song, there is an overall sense of intrigue which makes Children of the State a band to keep an eye on as they get ready to release their EP. If ‘Hot Money’ sets the tone of the EP, then we have plenty to look forward to.
‘Hot Money’ is a prime example of the effervescent post-punk scene which is on the rise here in the UK as Sheffield’s Children of the State get ready to join the ranks within the scene with their upcoming EP.
